Always remember staff/management a cheap advertising campaign can come back and bite your bum!!!
Going by my learned friend the Blue Peter will be my first port of call, but will visit you as i want to see what the advert is all about.

Interesting, I used to visit Polperro quite regularly up until 3 years ago and have been in the Crumplehorn but prefer the Blue Peter by far.

I notice after clicking on usernames below, many different usernames have only recently joined this site, written this pub up and had a dig at a few others. This is what we regular contributors on this site call Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD). When MPD strikes - beware good folk of the South West as all number of goodly writings will appear concerning the positive attributes of an establishment !

Most are all too often written by the same person who has registered under different usernames.

Visitors, pubs and restaurants in Polperro are generally fairly good but we prefer the Blue Peter for it's ale and food portion size. Must visit again soon.

We always come here for our lunch at least once when we holiday on the north coast in Bude. It is a fair drive but worth it. The food is always good and the real ales are exceptional. It can get very busy at times but that is all part of the success of the pub I suppose

just got back from long weekend in polperro, and my mates and i all agree that the old mill house was the best pub in the village. friendly staff, great food, well kept real ales, and the best value for money anywhere!
the 2 course sunday roast lunch (for only 5.95) was TERRIFIC!
We look forward to our return.
THE STAFF, ALE, & FOOD ARE ALL GREAT!

Stayed in a cottage a few yards from the Blue Peter. Great beer, friendly professional staff, good home made food, dogs welcome, friendly locals - everything we needed. The best pub

We went here as it was the first pub after the Polruan to Polperro walk. What a welcome site after a long walk and running out of water. This was the pub I wanted to find anyway so a spot of luck that it was the first one we came to. Six hand pumps with St Austell Tribute, Polperro Pride, Otter Ale, Royal Oak, Adnams Regatta and Cornish Orchards Draught Cider available on our visit. The Polperro Pride I had was very good and I was informed by the landlord that it is a mix from St Austell. I believe it is the only pub in Polperro in site of the sea. The floor upstairs takes you to the rear beer garden/smoking area and steps to the quay.

Always have a few drinks here wehn visit Looe. Landlord is a good guy and his beers are great too.

Enjoy a pint of doom in here every time I visit. never lets me down. Friendly staff.
13 Jun 2008 20:52
Fanatastic proper pub with top class real ales and friendly bar staff. As a newbie to Looe I was made to feel welcome and chatted to by locals and bar staff alike on my first visit. The landlord obviously takes pride in his beer, the Doom Bar was to die for. Nice old cosy pub where you can sit at the bar and feel involved in the hub-bub of Looe or tuck away in a corner for a quiet drink. After trying some of the other pubs on offer I have made the Jolly Sailor my local when I am in town.

Spent the afternoon of 10th April here with friends drinking superb Otter Ale in this bright friendly pub. Ate a pizza to help soak up the beer, and found it to be tip-top.
The whole feel of the place is warm and relaxing, with a sofa-filled snug complete with open fire complementing the traditional front bar.

It's handy for the station which is just down the road & round the corner, and is the best pub we found in Penzance.

Cheers,

cosy little pub just off the main drag, superb skinners beer, some of the best pizza you'll ever have (in this country anyway),and the couple who run this pub are super-nice.
18 Apr 2008 15:30
Smashing barmaid as was food and well kept Otter Brewery Ale, well done, a real cut above the rest of Penzance's below average boozers

My favourite St Ives pub. Turned up this year on the first day of a 2 week long beer festival. Beer always well kept, and there is always a good selection on offer. When I drive down to St Ives (390 miles from home) the first thing I do when I get there is to have a pint or three at the Castle. It's what my holiday is all about!
26 Sep 2008 14:34
My favourite pub in St Ives - manages to avoid being an overpriced tourist trap or a 'locals-only' venue. Probably the best beer range in town as well.
21 Sep 2008 20:15
Always call here to check out the real ale on offer, but agree that the board does not always reflect what is available. No problem with the beer though.

Returned home at the weekend to meet up with some old friend. Forgot how good this place is. Top marks
9 May 2008 05:32
I think Chav_man must have taken a wrong turning as he can't have found this pub. Truro is a beer mecca and this is one of the best.
IGNOR Chav_man as he is probably floating in a paddling pool!!!!!!!
21 Apr 2008 22:45
I read some of the reviews and decided to check this pub out. It is really crap and the toilet was a paddling pool.....

Without having any GBG entries for Looe it was a bit more of a mystery. This pub was selected by the girls in our group as they read that it was haunted. I was pleasantly surprised as four hand pumped ales and a real cider. I guess it is a free house by the selection. Available on Friday were Sharps Doom Bar, Skinners Betty Stoggs, Keltek King, Seadog India Pale Ale and Addlestones Cider. The Keltek King was rather tasty and in good form. My partner however was not impressed with the barman's swearing and seeing how the coffee cups were washed.
3 Aug 2008 22:47
A bit rough round the edges but very friendly, lively and beer spot on. Recommended.
22 Jul 2008 17:11
Along with the Fishermens this is a proper pub.
The good, the bad and the ugly all in one place.
Great night out.

Reviews by BITE users:

Sloop suffers from having limited seating space on the inside (does get crowded on Friday and Saturday nights) and having a narrow entrance so you have to walk through smokers' fug to get inside. Probably better to sit in the front bar in the Winter! Real Ales well kept.
28 Sep 2008 16:53
Great character but always struggled to get a table inside. Doom Bar was always spot on. Best thing about it was the bloke who plays guitar on (I think) Sundays and Wednesdays. He was brilliant!
26 Sep 2008 15:46
Great old pub, Very busy always, but staff handel that well, food was fine, loved the little booth type arrangement in back bar and also children not allowed after 9pm, only one negative is more a tourist pub than a local..

Spent a happy few hours here in 1984, the day before the Duchy Marathon. Unfortunately was too hungover to run! Never mind. The beer was worth it. Visited again in February (2008) - unchanged - amazing. Lovely beer, friendly staff and customers. Just don't drink the Extra Special if you're planNing to run a marathon the next day!
26 Mar 2008 08:20
This is a homebrew pub or at least it was the last time I visited. Nice drop of Spingo. Luuuuverly
24 Mar 2008 23:12
Drinking heaven but need subtitles to get what the locals are saying. Can't wait to try the Winter beer at Christmas

This place is worth finding, it is only a short walk. Skinners beers served beautifully. Betty stogs is to die for. Sharps doom bar and exmoor gold. The menu looked good and the is darts and pool. 8/10
30 Jun 2008 12:25
Fanatastic selection of beers seven when I went in Skinners stoggs and knocker, courage best and sharps doom bar with exmoor gold, timothy taylor landlord and black sheepbitter. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent value for money and they do bed and breakfast. Great pub that needs to be sampled. Happy drinking
15 May 2008 14:26
Top pub. One of the best local pubs I have ever found. Bible (Good beer Guide) regular. Excellant beer from Devon and Cornwall. Never made to feel unwelcome. Well worth the walk up the hill! SUPERB!

Went in last week, not very tourist friendly and only likes his own dog. Beer smelt of wet dog. Not my favourite.
13 Jul 2008 21:52
I'm a "tripper" but have always found it friendly.
Good beers, no food.
Dogs are aloud as long as it is kept away from the miserable boxer.
A great pub.

Reviews by BITE users:

A good pub that all of my small group seemed to appreciate. Four hand pumps with Sharps Cornish Coaster, Doombar ,Banks Original and possibly Courage Best. This was possibly the most reasonably priced pub of the week. I believe the Cornish Coaster was priced at £2.20 a pint. Everyone in our small group were happy with the rear outside tables facing the water, especially the smokers.
4 Aug 2008 00:21
Not really my type of place but served a cracking pint of Sharp's Doom Bar which I drank sitting outside overlooking the river.

At the riverside in West Looe. We used to stop off here on our walk back up to Hannafore. A good pint of Doom Bar and views of the river. We didn;t try the food but quite a few people were eating so I assume its quite a popular place. We did hear the Karaoke on our way back up the hill one night and I can confirm it was quite awful.
27 Jul 2008 17:30
Gone downhill. All locals been driven out by landlords attitude. Tourists only keep the place going. Ideal for Londoners and chavs
11 Jul 2008 23:34
Worth going on a friday just to hear the worst Karaoke you have ever endured and I have been going back for 10 years without improvement .
Lovely harbour views from the panoramic windows and a freindly atmosphere.
Top class sea food if a bit restaurant priced and well kept beer

Changed hands last October. This pub is now fresher, and brighter (and extremely clean) with a good food and drink offering. Prices have gone up recently, but where haven't they? it seems the government would like us all to stay at home! well worth a visit!
29 May 2008 20:37
Beer ok. Its a bit difficult to know where to drink though as the whole place seems to be a restaurant
18 Mar 2008 00:14
Changed hands again middle of 2007. Now in the capable hands of Charlie and Carole formerly at the Norway Inn, Perranaworthal. Excellent food and friendly efficient service- they have quickly put their unique stamp on the place. Only negatives were problems with a smoky fire apparently caused by blow back from the kitchen fans although it was also very windy on our visit and the high price of a pint of 'Proper Job' albeit compensated by cheaper wine than elsewhere in the area.
