I love this pub & make it my first stop when in Derby, has a great selection of beers, some brewed by the pub, wish they had a better selection of food otherwise i could have stayed all day, that said their filled rolls are excellent especially the Stilton & red onion.

Brewpub with 6 house beers and eight guests including Shardlow, Burton Bridge, Clarks, Elgoods and Everards (who own the pub). Various rooms and a beer garden out the back. Busy as expected on a match day but service didn't take long.

Brunswick Railway Porter and Black Sabbath were very tasty.

Fantastic.

Since the recent landlord came in there has been a distinct improvement in the feel of the place. The pub looks spruce and the beers are varied and well conditioned. As others have commented, it's a shame it seems so empty. It was well attended at the recentish beer festival so hopefully that will raise it's profile and encourage revisits.

This is a good pub with a good seletion of real ales, it's a shame when i went it was completely dead, with only one other customer...USE it or LOSE it.

I agree with the previous reviews, this is a great pub.

The Landlord is as eccentric as they come, but passionate about ales and certainly knows his stuff. Always a generous range of real ale, 6 to 8 hand pumps always on the go.

Have to echo Gristy's words on this. A proper, very old-fashioned back street boozer with some rather dour regulars supping pints silently alone at the bar on a Sunday lunchtime. The beer was first class stuff and interesting to see the fine UK brewed Moravka lager there as well.

Yes, it is hard to find and the route in can offer some challenges in terms of the local (very mixed) inhabitants, but it's all worth it when you get there. Excellent range of beers, welcoming and friendly staff, old-fashioned multi-room layout, decent jukebox and the all the feeling of a real, proper backstreet boozer. Visited at around 8.30 on a Saturday night, but very quiet for all that. Superb, regardless

I can't add much to what's already be said albeit previous comments were made a year or more ago. Nothing's changed (although I didn't have a problem finding it)! Went in for a pint and ended up trying all four excellent Falstaff beers on offer at the time. Well worth a visit or two.

It's let down slightly by its location on the inner ring road but once inside it cannot be faulted. If you can only visit one pub in Derby make it this one.

Magnificent range of ales on when we called in - 9 on handpump and 15 tapped from the cask wall in the rear "cellar" bar. Didn't eat, but the huge portions being consumed by other punters had our eyes on stalks. Very knowledgable and welcoming staff. Can't belive this was our 4th/5th trip to Derby over the last four years or so and this was the first time we had been there - it'll be stop no. 1 next time round.

Went in there on Saturday -a great range of beers including their own Headless ones. The food is pretty good as well.

Pleasant and unmodernised, but with a youngish crowd. The Bombardier was pretty good, even if it's not a beer at its best when served flat A decent stop on a Derby crawl.

This is a great pub - I was in here twice over the Christmas period. A proper old boozer with friendly locals, decent beer, and heaps of history. What other pub can boast a 17th century well in the back bar?!

This pub looks a bit run down from the outside but I'm pleased it's still open, we need to retain old character filled pubs like this one. A plaque on the wall dates the pub at 1680.

Very, very good selection of ales but supping a pint of mild at 11am on a Sunday morning is probably not the optimum time to enjoy a good beer. Friend's brother said his pint was off but mine was well-kept. Friendly welcome, too.

Never thought id agree with anyone who called a wetherspoons pub good. I fact I said it would be awful before we went in but I had to eat my own words or is it drink several pints of very well kept real ale! Superb.

Best Ale In Spoons I've Found, Love the departure board of ales behind the bar!a very well deserved 10/10 without a doubt!!

If you want to wait 15 minutes for a pint... This is the pub for you !

a very nice pub which is cheap and offers a selection of drinks. food in general isn't too bad. had some batter on fish which seemed to have a curious end to it and the mice infestation in the pub which it has had for at least a year does not do anything to make the pub wosre, it is a very clean pub just as with age the occasional mouse in the seating areas which adds entertainment value.

Comfortably the best large pub in Derby, The Standing Order is about as good as Wetherspoons pubs get. Top quality service, brilliant interior and a wide selection of decent beers on properly cleaned taps. Highly recommended.
