Not wanting to denigrate Quinno's merry review, but saying it looked like it was last decorated circa 1974 might give people the idea that they're going to a fantastic retro time-warp, like the Pride of Spitalfields.

But no, it certainly has a gantry, but the leather couches, red carpet (pattern circa 1999) and yellow wallpaper (circa 2002) are all in the traditional mould, but in no way 1970s.

The last 70s looking vestige - an odd slidey coin game - went when the new owners took over.

Quite a surprising find. A decent range of ale in good nick, served in a place that was last decorated when Huggy Bear was on the TV circa 1974.

Weirdly enjoyable, especially on a winters evening.

Sadly my review can't be much more detailed as I was already a bit merry by the time we visited :o0

Give it a try, I think you'll like it. I'm going back.

Proper back-street pub with a good mix of locals. Very good beer selection and the best pub garden in Hackney. Not one for a lively Saturday night, more of a relaxed afternoon kind of place.

I was really excited when i discovered this pub and thought it could become a local, but after trying it a few times it feels too much like my grandma's living room. It's really warm, which is good, and has a really good pool table (one of the best I've played on) and when it's the quiz on Tuesdays you get free food which is chips and little cheese sandwiches which is really nice. And the people running it are lovely but it just has an air about it that nothing suprising or exciting is going to happen, and it makes me feel the same way as the theme tune to last of the summer wine on Sunday evenings, a bit depressed. It has Becks though.

Excellent little pub on a quiet back street between Homerton and Hackney. Three real ales on. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Just the sort of place you'd be happy to have as your 'local'.
