Very gloomy pub with little natural lighting, even at lunchtime it had the feel of a night club about it. One massive anti is that the gents are fully four flights of steel , dimly lit stairs away.Plenty of good ale , but also plenty of better pubs nearby. davidchar - 8 Apr 2012 12:01
I was quite surprised when I walked in as in my experience Castle Rock pubs are usually "no frills". What a magnificent building! The canal actually runs through the pub. There's a few little nooks and crannies where small groups can have a little more privacy. The beer I had was good, though the price was slightly above average. The food I didnt try but looking at the menu it didn't seem too expensive. The only inconvenience was that the barmaid did not come across as polite. jarofporter - 31 Jan 2012 13:16

Nice but strange interior. Castle Rock pub. Pleasant staff, ales always decent. Worth a visit. ng10 - 11 Aug 2011 10:10
Unusual pub literally built over a canal with a boat moored underneath. One half of the pub has loud music, the other half's quiet, so everyone should be happy. Food all day ranging from blow-out meals to light snacks, so again something for everyone. Castle Rock beers - but smaller choice than at the Vat. Friendly and helpful staff. Downside? The gents' toilet is up several steep flights of stairs; not sure how people cope when they've had a few!! Trev - 17 Apr 2011 11:46
