I called in here today for lunch at 1.00pm with a friend. There were only two others eating inside, and the garden didn't appear to be busy; indeed, the landlord did comment that it was unusually quiet- despite the superb weather and Milton Festival this week. There was a small but adequate selection of draft beers, and what I had was pleasant to drink. The food (braised pork for my friend and chicken for me, both with fresh vegetables) was beautifully cooked by the landlord's wife, and reasonably priced. I did notice the "no mobile phones" sign, and happily the situation didn't arise among the aged clientele that we were today! I shall definitely go again, and enjoyed my visit more than on an occasion a year ago, when I was told rather frostily by the landlord that they did not do fish and chips..... pubsampler - 13 May 2008 23:18
Went back last week for a meal with 8 other friends, the food was excellent, we each chose something different from the menu, not by design, and it wa all served beautifully cooked. The landlady does the cooking and it is all fresh produce not boil in a bag, don't know how she managed it there were at least 6 other tables also being served. It is slightly up market good pub food (not gastro pub and not gastro pub prices!)The beer as ever was very well kept 3 real ales, we will be back. Randyray - 3 Mar 2008 21:20
On the strength of 2 previous visits, the last about 2 yrs ago, the 4 members of the 'Pub Crawl Crew' made a return visit on 13 Feb. As before, pleasant enough welcome, good beer (Adnams, Spitfire, Black Sheep), 2 ciders, nice ambience in comfortable, beamed old-style pub surroundings. Like a previous contributor, the landlord barked his annoyance at one of us when his mobile rang. If there is a notice, it's not very noticeable.! (Mind you, Micky's phone does have a particularly annoying ring-tone.!) We weren't eating, but a customer that had, complemented the bar staff by saying "those steaks were delicious, just right, thank you". So, looks like the food could be worth a bash.! To again echo a previous contributor, it's worth mentioning the particularly clean glasses. That says something about the landlord's approach to his business. Summing up, well worth a visit. You won't be disappointed, but try to remember to put your fone on 'Silent'..! Glenco - 14 Feb 2008 17:11
Despite the comments below, I am in favour of the mobile phone ban. Listening to one half of other people’s conversations pitched at a level for all to hear pisses me off some. If you are that scared about being out of touch, you could always keep your phone on vibrate and take any calls outside. Anyway, back to the pub. This is an excellent little local with a good-ish range of beer (something brewed within 100 miles of the pub might be nice though), decent reasonably priced sandwiches etc., a dart board and loads of character. One of the few genuine locals in the area. Visit soon though, as some slimy cretin will be bound to turn it into a gastro pub when the current management moves on. Redriley - 7 Dec 2007 21:56
