Tipical Wetherspoons. Some nice armchairs near entrance. Called on Cup final day, had some well kept beer with a great choice including Oakham JHB, Thorbridge Jaipur, Rudgate Ruby Mild and Twickenham Naked Lady plus others. Forget the ambience good choice, good beer all at good prices.

It's rammed on pension and giro day...

As you'd expect, getting served is something of a lottery given the predictably huge bar. Once successful, you then tend to find that at least a third of any items you were intending to order may no longer be available for various reasons which will be imparted with varying degrees of enthusiasm, but again that's standard Spoons fare. Generally, this place is fine. Decent prices (during the week) of at least a pound a pint less than many local competitors make it a relatively attractive if somewhat clinical option.

I went into this pub years ago when it was known as the Sorting Office and it was a shocking pub. Therefore, it took a lot of persuading to get me to go back in now that it had changed its name. The experience was not as grating as it had been as the clientele was at least of drinking age. Being a Weatherspoons, there was a good ale selection. One of my party order some food which turned up cold and to rectify it, they just put it in the microwave which was poor. However, the biggest problem was the lack of atmosphere. It was a bit like being in a hotel bar. I will not be going back here in a hurry.

"The Ellis" has recently got rid of it's chav disco and is reducing it's opening hours on Thurs to Sat.
To be honest once you get known to the bar staff here, this is not a bad boozer, (mainly after work)
where four of you can get change out of a tenner for a round.
OK, like all spoons it has it's share of WiFiers, OAPs, students and loons but I there are plenty of decent folk who go there, put off by the ever increasing prices of it's local competitors.
The food's not brilliant but come on, a beer and a burger for £6.59 ? Beats a Big Mac and a watery coke.
Give "The Ellis" a try sometime.
