The new place is a lot more modernised than before. Now sells a couple of ales as well, theakston and ipa.
The layout is pretty much the same as before though.

When it opens AGAIN its changing its name to The Alburny.Fingers crossed because its not been much since Keith & Barbs had it, The Rats was a great place then.

Will rats be on the menu when it reopens? I hope so.

Or, or a an actually rats' castle as the centrepiece of the pub - a sealed sustainable habitat for our murine fiend. Diners of the new "gastropub" cuisine will be delighed by a colony of scores of rats scurried about the famous Guildford rats' castle and in perspex tubes leading from the central colony to all four corners of the pub, beneath tables and amongst the feet of customers.

I'd go there.

The rumour seems to be true. Having just spoken to someone working on the pub it seems that two local guys have bought the place and are turning it into a good quality gastro style pub. The place has been completely gutted(thank god!) and they are in the process of a complete refurb. This can only be good news for the area, we need a decent place to go which isn't full of kids and that serves a good pint and offers some good food. Apparently it should be open in early November.
