Disappointing. There was a chance of improvement after Tynemill got rid. More of a sports bar than a pub. The design of the place (one big room) means you cannot escape the big screen which when not showing sport shows a music channel.

The thoughtless location of the new pool table also means you're likely to have to dodge the end of a pool cue as you sit and drink.

There was an impressive line up of well kept ales when I visited, but with pubs such as the Swan & Rushes, Criterion, and The Western close by I won't be in a hurry to return. If you like Sky Sports, pool, and being served by a man wearing a baseball cap this place is for you.

Not as many beers at the bar as was suggested on the chalkboard at the door, but still a large and varied selection. Grainstore Cooking & Rutland Panther Mild, Banks & Taylor Dragon Slayer, Caledonian XPA, Marstons Dragon’s Tale, Old Rosie, Oakham Inferno, Pedigree, Banks Bitter. Large, single roomed, open-plan pub, slightly reminiscent of working-mens’ club layout, separate seating for bar & dining, pool table, tv, drop down big screen. ‘Hot cobs’ – pork or sausage&onion £3, chip cob £2. Building lacks character, but friendly staff & punters & good beer.

Perhaps a bit fierce and blokey looking for a start, but don't be put off, the staff and locals are very friendly. Almost family orientated, with food all day, and a fine looking Sunday Roast available, but there's lagers and some lovely traditional ales on, TopHatte is right (see above) the Batemans was a treat, with five on all together.

Decent pub with a range of ales and good bar food. Beers always in tip-top condition. Friendly welcome and efficient service.
